I really ended up enjoying this debut novel, but the first 20% I wasn't so sure! I'm so glad I read on because this is a slow burning twister of suspense and emotion, if you give it a chance to grow on you.I was initially having trouble, well, because it was far from romantic. But friends indicated some twists, so I kept on. By 30% I was reading on in morbid curiosity as we're introduced to a BDSM club, by 50% I was completely sucked into this story, it got very suspenseful. The remainder of the book was an intense ride, trying to work out what was happening, what was going to happen, were people going to Die??!!
I love a male author, they have a unique point of view that is kind of cool. This book is told in Jack's point of view as he navigates life. Written by a man, it's quite a masculine POV in regards to how a man thinks, his daily musings, his sexual appetites, and I had to distance from my own romanticised point of view as a female reader. It's far from romantic. It's highly sexual. There are some very erotically charged sex scenes, some Menage, some group sex, some bondage. Lots of blow jobs.
I much preferred the second part of the book, as we started to get some cohesive thoughts as Jack's relationship with Leah gets deeper. A suspense element takes over. Things get stressful and I pretty much couldn't put this book down all day, to reach its conclusion.
At the end of the day, from my earlier misgivings, I ended up liking this book a lot. Loving it even. Jack was a Cad, but I felt I knew him quite well by the end, and had forgiven some of his earlier thoughts and transgressions because he really was quite sweet, and I loved how he ended up falling in love with Leah. Yes, sex started early, but love was a slow burning emotion, that revealed itself later in the book.
And I loved the underlying message that revealed itself by the end: Don't be afraid to let things end, because it's when things end that a new beginning reveals itself, which will bring greater meaning and happiness.
There were some great band scenes towards the end, music is a central part of the book. These were my favourite parts, I felt the excitement, the joy. I actually look forward to reading more from this author. If he concentrates around suspense or rock band genre's, this seems to be his forte. He sure knows how to create a scene, and set a feeling. A great debut.

Sex Love and Rock n' Roll Scott Mackenzie Books Reviews
It's rare to find an erotic novel with a strong storyline that is just as intriguing as the sex going on. It's even more rare for that book to be written by a male author. But Scott MacKenzie manages to walk that line between raunchy and riviting, sexy and sweet, crass and captivating perfectly. In his debut novel, the story he weaves about Jack and Leah and their walk through the wild side to find love and understanding is a roller coaster of emotion and revelation. Their flaws make them interesting, characters who you want to be a bit bad, a bit loose, a bit out of control but also redeemable in the end. The chain of events and how things progress is so natural you can picture yourself in the steamy scenario with no problem, indulging in some naughty play, going a tad too far as you explore that secret side of desire not many let come out to play. Overall a fun, hot read that leaves little to the imagination and a willingness to bring actions on the page into your reality, if just to try it out once.
It's a standing ovation from me for this stand alone erotic read. The author, Scott Mackenzie, holds nothing back with this debut story of dark sexual encounters, desires, narcissism, drugs, and urges.
The characters, Jack Willow and Leah seem at first to be the ideal setting of the Big Bad Wolf meets Little Red, but Little Red (Leah) is not naive or as innocent as Jack thinks.
Jack is truly a "Jack of all Trades" kind of man with many careers under his belt from business owner, a partner, to lead singer in a band, etc. One of those trades has given him years of experience in the dark world of BDSM that Leah gravitates to like a moth to fire. Together they enter an emotional, sexually erotic relationship that takes a turn for the worse that could shatter all that Jack has built for himself and potentially kill Leah!
In the end; I enjoyed the Male POV that the author delivers and am definitely looking forward to his collaboration with his wife, Katrina Hale on his next book.
This is a great debut novel from Mr MacKenzie and it was quite the page turner for me with its intriguing story line, little twist and turns and wonderfully flawed characters.
I really love reading a book from the male POV, (with a hero named Jack whose the lead singer of a band - shallow I know, but it works for me) and this book didn't disappoint!
I loved Jack's voice, and the way he described his life, what he loved and what annoyed him and his unapologetic ways for his behaviour and actions.
At the beginning of the book, not only did I find Jack to be mysterious and blunt, but a detached man who was only concerned about his own sexual needs. Destined to be the perpetual bachelor for as long as his good looks and charm sustained him.
However as the story progressed and we got more and more insight into Jack my opinion of him changed in line with his own changes. He started to reassess his life and what was important to him once Leah walked into his life.
The story really picked up for me at the 45% mark when all the questions I had swirling in my head started to slowly get answered. I had a light bulb moment and I the cover made total sense. Tiny pieces of the mysterious and super sexy Jack Willow were being revealed and I was holding my breath hoping that Leah felt the same way as Jack did for her.
The pacing, the character development of our hero Jack and the erotic scenes and love scenes were all very well done. Leah was still a bit of a mystery to me and I would have liked to have known more about her background but that's just me.
Congratulations Mr MacKenzie, I look forward to reading your next book.
